What happened
The European Media Art Platform (EMAP) opened its call for 2027 residencies on 3 September 2026. It closes on 6 November 2026 at 14:00 CET. Selected artists spend two months at one of 15 host organisations, from Ars Electronica in Linz to WRO Art Center in Wrocław, and are invited to a conference at LABoral in Gijón on 11 and 12 March 2027.
The applying artist receives a €4,000 grant that covers subsistence, plus a €4,000 project budget. A collaborating artist receives €2,000, or a duo receives €6,000 in total. Collaboration is required: applicants enter as a duo or collective, or propose a project with a partner, who need not be confirmed when applying.
Why it matters
The call names digital, media, robotic and bio art. It does not mention AI, film or moving image, so a generative-video artist applies under media art, with a project built for a lab residency rather than a screening. Applicants must be EU residents or taxpayers, or from eligible non-EU countries such as Norway and Ukraine. Undergraduate and Master's students are excluded; PhD candidates and emerging artists of any age may apply.
Still open
The number of residencies to be awarded is not stated on the call pages as of 27 October 2026.
