Students.
Ideas.
New worlds.
01 / The idea
To tell a story. To make someone feel something. To see the world a little differently.
New Frames is a space for the next generation of European filmmakers. Use new creative tools in service of your ideas. Mix techniques. Take a risk. Make a film that could only have come from you.
Filmmaking first. Technology in service of the story.
02 / The prizes
Three awards. Room for a new point of view.
€500
For the strongest film in the competition. The idea, the execution, the feeling that stays with us.
€300
For the most creative, effective and purposeful use of AI in the filmmaking process.
€100
Chosen by the audience. Awarded to the shortlisted film with the most verified public votes.
03 / Find your category
Live action, animation, 3D, generated video, sound or a combination. Choose the category that best fits your story.
Future societies, alternate realities, mythology and entirely original worlds.
Build somewhere we haven’t seen before.Satire, absurdism, character comedy, mockumentary and unconventional humour.
Make us laugh.People, relationships, identity, conflict and the moments that change us.
New technology. Deeply human stories.Visual poetry, mixed media, surreal worlds and new forms of moving image.
Break the format.04 / The creative toolkit
AI does not need to generate the entire film.
Combine AI with live action, practical effects, animation or any other filmmaking technique. What matters is a meaningful contribution to the work.Spelling correction, administration and other minor tasks alone do not meet the requirement.
05 / From idea to screen
Create the film. Make an original 1–5 minute short. Put your idea first and make AI a meaningful part of the process.
Explain the process. Share the tools, models and production techniques that helped bring your film to life.
Choose your category. Enter your film and complete the Production & Technology Form within the submission window.
Find your audience. Selected films will be judged, showcased and opened for the Viewers’ Favourite vote.
06 / Your place here
Open to students at universities, film schools, art schools, vocational schools and other recognised educational institutions in Europe.
One film per entrant or team. Proof of student status may be requested from shortlisted entrants or winners.
07 / The essentials
A few shared parameters.
Everything else is yours to imagine.
08 / A film that stays with us
This is a filmmaking competition first.
More tools don’t make a better film. The strongest work puts technology in service of an idea.
09 / Behind the frames
The process is part of the story.
Alongside your film, complete the Production & Technology Form. Help us understand how the next generation makes moving images: what you use, what you discover, and what gets in the way.
This information is separate from creative judging. Expensive hardware, paid tools or a particular platform will not earn a higher score.
