What happened
Submissions for Cartoon Movie 2027, CARTOON's pitching forum for European animated features in Bordeaux from 2 to 4 March 2027, close on 12 November 2026. Selection follows in the week of 1 December.
The regulations require project representatives to declare the use of AI and to specify the areas it applies to. CARTOON's AI Usage Policy, dated 17 January 2025, gives writing and visual design as examples. A project that breaks the policy receives a warning, and if it is not corrected the selection committee may remove it.
Eligible projects are features of at least 60 minutes, at least 50% animated and meant for cinemas, from independent producers based in Creative Europe MEDIA countries. UK-based main producers are excluded, each company may enter one film, and withdrawing after 8 January 2027 costs €1,000.
Why it matters
A producer entering a feature has to state AI use in writing or visual design inside the submission itself. The policy bans no tool. It asks for a plain declaration, and the sanction it names is removal of a project left uncorrected after a warning.
For your film
Before 12 November, list each department where a tool generated or altered material, so the declaration matches what the pitch deck shows.
