# Black Forest Labs opens FLUX 3 Image Klein to small commercial users

Makers under US$5 million in yearly revenue may use its outputs commercially, after filtering or review.

## What happened

Freiburg-based Black Forest Labs released the open weights of FLUX 3 Image Klein on 15 October 2026. The 5.6-billion-parameter model generates and edits images, takes up to 10 reference images, and its INT8 build runs on a GeForce RTX card with 8 GB of memory.

The weights sit on Hugging Face under the FLUX Kommunity License v1.0, issued by Black Forest Labs Inc. Commercial use of outputs is limited to "Qualifying Users": anyone whose gross annualised revenue, with affiliates, is below US$5,000,000.

## Why it matters

For a student, freelancer or small studio, the licence allows paid use of storyboards, keyframes and stills made locally. Section 2(e) adds two duties: filter outputs or review them for unlawful or infringing content before distribution, and disclose that an output was AI-generated or modified where the law requires it. Section 4 prohibits uses that breach the EU AI Act.

Downloading needs only acceptance of the licence. Using the pictures in paid work carries those conditions.

## Still open

The model card says the commercial exception is not blanket permission for commercial fine-tuning or distribution, a limit for makers training character models for clients. Self-hosted commercial tiers on bfl.ai/licensing list no prices. As of 22 October 2026.

## For your film

Before using Klein images in paid work, check your revenue against the threshold and note how you filter or review outputs before distribution.
